We believe that his presence will further enhance our training programs, providing our members with an exceptional Jiu Jitsu experience. Let’s get to know Sean a little better!
Who is Sean Coleman?
Coach Sean is a devoted and loving family man to his 3 beautiful girls and to his cherished life partner and her son, creating their nice and cozy 21st century hybrid family. He is an advocate of continuous self-improvement and a master of inspiring analogies. Sean is the “Founding Father” to the early riser squad at SBG Buford, nurturing a small group of individuals into a large and dedicated crew with an unwavering commitment to studying their craft and pushing their limits well before the sun comes up. His advice in life is to:
“Make your bed every morning, have a ritual, set a plan, take intentional action on that plan, and then start your day!”
From Anger to Black Belt:
Sean’s remarkable journey from a young boy struggling with anger management to becoming the first student to go white to black belt under the tutelage of Phillipe Gentry is a testament to his unwavering determination and personal growth. As a child, Coleman faced challenges with controlling his anger, leading to frequent fights in middle school. His early desire to find an outlet for his energy and emotions led him to boxing, thus igniting his passion for combat sports. After years of training in boxing, he was introduced to Jiu Jitsu and instantly discovered his love for this practical martial art. His enthusiasm for the sport was contagious and he eventually crossed paths with his now Coach, Phillipe Gentry, when he invited Coach Phil to teach a BJJ seminar in his garage. This encounter marked a transformative moment in Sean’s life – joining SBG Buford as one of its first employees, and the beginning of a profound student-teacher relationship that has evolved over the past decade.
The Power of Consistency, Fun, and Time:
Throughout his journey, Sean has developed a philosophy that boils down to a simple formula: Consistency + Fun + Time equates to Always Getting Better. Whether in Jiu Jitsu, or any other endeavor, he firmly believes that following this formula can lead to mastery of any craft. Sean’s dedication to spreading this message extends not only to his own training but also to motivating others to embrace the path of growth and personal development. His personal growth stretches beyond the realm of martial arts as well, as he regularly seeks to expand his horizons in areas such as: marketing, media, coaching, teaching, spa services, coding, photography, and more. Yes, that is right, he can microblade eyebrows with the best! If he is not on the mats, you can frequently find him swimming or out rucking in his free time. His passion for growth stems from his desire to combat brain-aging ailments, such as Alzheimer’s, and to lead a fulfilling life marked by continuous learning and self-improvement. By embodying this philosophy, he demonstrates the limitless possibilities that lie within a curious and growth-oriented mindset.
Welcome to SBG Atlanta!
Sean’s profound impact on the culture of SBG has been nothing short of transformative, making him an ideal choice to lead and inspire our students at SBG Atlanta on their martial arts journey. As we embark on this exciting new chapter, we are confident that Sean’s leadership, passion, knowledge, and commitment will continue to elevate our training programs and the standards of excellence within our Jiu Jitsu community. Welcome, Coach Sean, to the SBG Atlanta Tribe!
