13-year-old Colby Greaver has become quite fun and impressive to watch as he does one-on-one kickboxing sessions with Coach Jim.
“He’s gotten really good at kickboxing in a very short amount of time. I rattle off some really advanced combinations and movements and he picks them up insanely quickly. Most importantly, he does the fundamentals really well; hands up, chin down. If that kid ever finds himself in a situation where he needs to defend himself, I think he’ll be just fine.”
Young Colby began training at SBG Buford many years ago in our Growing Gorillas Jiu Jitsu program. He took a hiatus from training at SBG Buford after he and fell in love with soccer, which he still continues to play to this day. When his mom, Amanda, asked if he wanted to get back into martial arts training Colby said yes, but he wanted to switch his focus more on the striking. Colby came in over the summer to see if he like doing kickboxing, and the rest is history.
“I started kickboxing because I feel like it is a fun way to exercise and have fun while doing it. Not only is it fun and making me more fit but it’s also teaching me self-defense. I wanted to start when I felt like I needed some extra activites for me to be out of the house.”
Colby isn’t the only person who has wanted to get involved with martial arts after spending a lot of extra time at home due to the COVID19 pandemic. He’s kept himself busy between school, soccer, and his kickboxing sessions.
“I love doing this and never want to stop. Not only has it changed my life but it can keep me safe in the future. SBG feels like my home away from home. SBG is a place I want to be.”
Congratulations on being November’s Martial Arts Kid of the Month, Colby! Keep up the outstanding work hitting those pads.
