Here's How Personal Training at SBG Atlanta Works
Our Personal Training system is all about tailoring each aspect to your unique needs.
The first step… is meeting your coach and making sure you have a good rapport. A good personal trainer is someone you should hire because you think they’ll do a great job, not someone that is assigned to you because they’re available.
From there…Â you and your coach will talk about YOU, from the way you want to look, the way you want to feel, how much time you are able to allocate to your training, etc.
Your first visit…Â with your personal trainer will include a beginner-friendly workout so that they can assess your strength, mobility, and cardiovascular endurance. This will help them to build your program and set realistic and achievable goals to ensure you get the results that you want.
In no time, you’ll be on the fast track to success and you’ll enjoy every minute of it

"When I step on the mat, there's no place I'd rather be."
We drive over an hour & it's worth every mile!
My daughter and I have been at this gym for almost a year. We drive over an hour to get there and it's worth every mile. The coaches and staff are amazingly friendly and supportive. If I could drag this gym closer to home we would be there more than three times a week!
So happy I did this for myself!
Yesterday was the first time I attended a class at SBG – it was the Fitness Kickboxing class with coach Jim. I am so glad I signed up for this class. You're constantly moving and Jim makes sure you're doing everything correctly for best results and no injuries! So happy I did this for myself!
Kickboxing kicked my butt!
Tonight was the first time I've ever been in any kind of gym. I took the Fitness Kickboxing and LOVED it! The coaches are so positive and encouraging with no judgement. Kickboxing kicked my butt ... in a good way! I can't wait to come back <3

What are the benefits of doing one-on-one or buddy personal training sessions?
What programs can I do personal training for?
Any and all of them. We have certified experienced coaches that are available to do one-on-one and buddy training in Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, as well as Fitness/Sports Performance. We also do private lessons for the kids in our Growing Gorillas Jiu Jitsu program. Where as most people think of personal training as being exclusive to general fitness and physical appearance, most of our martial arts athletes utilize PT sessions to focus and improve on their individual game and skill set.
How would I get started in personal training?
The first step is to meet with one of our fitness and/or martial arts coaches so that we can find out more about YOU. What is your exercise/training history, do you have any medical conditions we need to know about, how much time are you wanting to dedicate to training, what kind of timeline are we on, etc. Having a clear-cut idea of what you want and how we can get there is not only the first step but the most important one.
In addition to mapping out your path and ensuring we set you up with a successful game plan, it’s important that you meet with your coach so that you can build rapport and make sure you feel comfortable with him or her. There’s a reason it’s called PERSONAL training. You’re going to develop a relationship with your coach, so let’s make sure you’re a good fit for each other.
What are these buddy sessions I keep hearing about?
Buddy sessions are a fantastic way to save some money while still getting the personal touch and attention of a pt session. If you have a friend, family member, or a training partner that has common goals, you are welcome to share your personal training sessions together. We discount these sessions, so a lot of our students have found that pairing up with another athlete allows them to get the benefits of personal training while still working within their budget.
The only prerequisite for buddy sessions is that you and your partner have similar goals (and for martial arts it helps if you are at a similar skill level).
What separates personal training at Straight Blast Gym Buford from the personal training I’d get at a standard big-box gym?
A LOT. Most personal trainers use your time together to “put you through a workout”, walking you randomly between machines and stations that are available for use. That is not personal training, and far from what we do at SBG. After you and your coach determine what you are trying to accomplish, we’ll map out a guide on how to meet your goals as efficiently as possible. Along the journey your coach will not only guide you through the customized workouts, but also hold you accountable every step of the way.
