  • Landon Stowe is the Martial Arts Kid of the Month for January 2021

Landon is building all kinds of new self-confidence at SBG Buford!

7-year-old, Sugar Hill Elementary school studnet, Landon Stowe began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu this past October. Looking for an extra-curricular activity that could keep his attention and build his self-confidence, they found Straight Blast Gym Buford’s Growing Gorillas Jiu Jitsu program. His mother Yana told us this:

“His dad got him to try karate and Jiu Jitsu about 2 years ago, and Landon ultimately decided that he preferred Jiu Jitsu. He was attending a studio in Winder, but then moved with his dad to Sugar Hill in August. They tried out SBG and another school, but decided to train here because of the discipline and technique they experienced .”

Right away Landon was noticed by his coaches for his great attention to detail and quick progression on the mats. Even as a new student, Landon was quick to find his voice and started making friends with the other kids in class. He has already earned stripes on his belt for his immaculate attendance record and constant improvement in Jiu Jitsu.

When he is not practicing Jiu Jitsu with his teammates at SBG, Landon enjoys playing Pokemon or trading cards with his friends. Landon has also recently begun to show an interest in hunting and doing archery with his father, which is pretty awesome for a 7-year-old. He’s even gone indoor skydiving!

His mom gave us these parting words:

“As a dancer, I enjoy performing arts like martial arts and anything with movement. The fact that he’s learning how to defend himself in an art form makes me happy.”
