It was a crazy February for Mike Greene.
“The Exterminator” is just that…an exterminator. By day he is a business owner, running Mosquito Masters with his brother-in-law. When he isn’t running his own business, Mike trains in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Straight Blast Gym Buford. At the age of 34, Mike didn’t have many illusions of competing in MMA. He enjoys BJJ and frequently competes in grappling competitions around Atlanta. Last fall…he started to get that itch.
“I started practicing with the MMA team just to push my own boundaries. I strongly believe that forcing oneself out of comfort zones is the only way to experience true growth.”
Mike began attending Kickboxing and MMA classes, expanding his martial arts horizons and getting more comfortable being on his feet and striking. In early February, a spot opened up on a local MMA card to fight a much-hyped newbie. Head MMA Coach Phillipe Gentry seized the opportunity and plugged in Mike Greene. With less than two months of striking experience, Mike Greene answered the call and accepted the fight.
“The team needed someone to take the fight. Coach Phillipe asked me, and he was confident in my abilities to have success…so I accepted.”
While it is all too common for first time fighters to get the jitters and freeze up, Mike looked ready to go, taking his opponent down over and over and controlling about 90% of the fight. By the last bell Mike had secured himself a dominant win, winning on the scorecards 30-25, 30-25, and 30-24.
Congrats Mike! Keep up the fantastic work.
