  • SBG Atlanta Student of the Month: Glen DeGruy – October 2024

At 50 years old, Glen DeGruy exemplifies perseverance, dedication, and a love for martial arts that knows no age. Glen joined SBG Atlanta’s Muay Thai program in 2022 and has since become a regular attendee, particularly in the morning Muay Thai classes.

    Glen’s Journey in Muay Thai

Muay Thai is often seen as a younger person’s sport, but Glen has defied the odds, training consistently with students half his age. As Coach Jim puts it, “Being a 50-year-old Muay Thai student is the equivalent of being a 65-year-old Jiu Jitsu student—impressive and inspiring.” His dedication to self-defense and skill development perfectly represents the goals of our Muay Thai program.

Muay Thai Classes at SBG Atlanta focus on strength, conditioning, and powerful striking techniques. With Glen’s dedication, he’s a shining example of how our program can benefit people of all ages.

    A Commitment to Growth

Glen is not only a regular in the coached sessions, but he also takes advantage of the uncoached open mats. According to Coach Kaden, Glen shows up consistently, spars lightly with his peers, and works hard to improve. He embraces both the physical and mental challenges, embodying what it means to never stop learning.

    Why Glen Stands Out

Glen’s hard work, humility, and persistence show that age is just a number when you commit to your journey. His progress is a testament to the power of consistency and dedication.
