  • Kids Student Of The Month: Mark & Yohann Abert

At Straight Blast Gym, we take pride in recognizing the accomplishments of our students. This month, we are excited to highlight the journey of two young martial artists, Mark and Yohann Abert. These brothers do not only excel in the art of Jiu Jitsu; they also embody the core values of discipline, resilience, and camaraderie that are central to our community. Let’s delve into their inspiring story.

    A Peek into Their World

Beyond their dedication to Jiu Jitsu, Mark and Yohann are individuals with individual interests.

Yohann has an interest in engineering-related activities such as reading, hiking, camping, fishing, and chess. He has a curiosity, which is evident from his inclination towards disassembling and reassembling electronic devices. On the other hand, Mark possesses a slightly different mindset and finds joy in reading books, playing board games and video games like chess, camping adventures, and solving logical puzzles. His dream is to pursue a career as a video game creator. Together, they are a duo of talent and enthusiasm.

Recognizing the philosophy behind Jiu Jitsu, their parents made the decision to enroll both Mark and Yohann in our esteemed “Growing Gorillas” Kids Jiu Jitsu program.
They were attracted to the idea that “we compete on the mats so that we can support each other off the mats.” This principle deeply resonates with their family’s core values of togetherness and mutual assistance in every aspect of life.

    Unforgettable Memories and Accomplishments

One of the key memories for their family is when their boys participated in their first Jiu Jitsu tournament. The thrill, inspiration, and joy they felt upon winning their medals left a mark. It marked the beginning of their journey into the world of the arts.

    Mental Growth

The positive transformations brought about by practicing Jiu Jitsu are clearly visible in Mark and Yohann. Their self-esteem and confidence have skyrocketed. They have developed skills, becoming more motivated and disciplined individuals. Not only have they grown physically stronger and healthier, but their mental and emotional growth has been equally remarkable.

    Invaluable Life Lessons

One of the lessons learned through martial arts is pushing beyond one’s comfort zone. Mark and Yohann have become more adaptable to unfamiliar situations. Their ability to concentrate and focus has improved significantly, giving them an advantage in all areas of life.

    The Perspective of the Brothers

Mark and Yohann have a love for Jiu Jitsu that goes beyond the physical techniques. They enjoy being a part of the Jiu Jitsu team, where they get to learn skills and bond with their teammates. What they really look forward to are the fun games that wrap up each class, bringing an element of enjoyment to their training.

    Moments to Be Proud Of

Both Mark and Yohann take pride in their journey through Jiu Jitsu. Yohann has memories of his successful submission, known as “Americana,” while Mark feels accomplished when he manages a submission from a closed guard position. These moments of triumph have fueled their motivation to keep challenging themselves.

    Strength and Confidence Boost

After a session of Jiu Jitsu they may feel tired. Its an invigorating kind of exhaustion. Mark finds satisfaction in the sense of achievement that follows a training session, while Yohann often feels both tired and inspired at the same time. Through Jiu Jitsu, they have not only become physically stronger but also gained confidence in their own abilities.

    Dreaming of Future BJJ Success

When they think about what lies ahead, Mark and Yohann envision themselves earning belts and championship titles in the world of Jiu Jitsu. But their ambitions don’t end there; they also aspire to become BJJ coaches who can pass on their knowledge and passion to the next generation of martial artists.

    A Note from Coach Montana

Coach Montana, who has had the privilege of training these two brothers, truly admires them as students. They possess the qualities of being good listeners and natural leaders, showcasing an understanding of the intricate dynamics within martial arts. What sets them apart is their ability to adapt their techniques, strength, and speed accordingly when facing opponents. Whether its Yohann securing a submission from the guard or Mark expertly maneuvering into a top pin, these brothers leave an indelible impression on the training mats.

Mark and Yohann Abert, our Kids Students of the Month, embody the core values we hold dear at SBG. With dedication, perseverance, and community spirit, their journey serves as a source of inspiration for all of us. We eagerly anticipate witnessing their growth and success both in their martial arts journey and beyond. Congratulations to Mark and Yohann!
