SBG Camp is a one-of-a-kind experience, where martial arts students and coaches from all over the world come together for an incredible weekend of training and tribe-building.
For those that have never had the privilege to attend an installment of SBG Camp, here is an idea of what the weekend will look like:
(Caveat: This is a breakdown of a typical SBG Camp weekend. The schedule for this upcoming event may vary from past camps.)
Friday
Camp will kick off on Friday, March 24th, in the late afternoon, where SBG Athens will be hosting a GIANT open mat for all of the weekend’s attendees. This Open Mat is an amazing opportunity to get in some rolls with your teammates from all over the world. The Open Mat typically runs about 2 hours.
Saturday
The morning starts with 8am MMA practice for all coaches, amateur, and professional fighters (aspiring amateur fighters can attend if given permission by their coach). The MMA practice will be run by Adam Singer, co-owner of SBG Athens, and one of the most important figures in Georgia’s MMA history. Former professional MMA & Muay Thai fighter Matt Inman will also be in attendance. Getting to train with, and under, coaches like Adam Singer and Matt Inman is worth the price of admission, alone.
Saturday will officially kick off around 9:30am, where 2 SBG coaches will each teach a 75-90 minute martial arts section. Following these two sections, we break for lunch. After lunch, we will have another section in the afternoon (this one is closer to 2 hours). At the conclusion of the afternoon section, SBG Athens will run another Open Mat for about an hour.
(Did we mention that this schedule is based on past SBG Camps and that the schedule for the upcoming Spring Camp could change?? I think we did mention this, but just in case…)
Sunday
Sunday kicks off around 9 or 9:30am, and follows Saturday’s morning schedule, with 2 SBG coaches each teaching a section before lunch. Following lunch, we’ll have one final martial arts section in the afternoon before Camp concludes.
SBG Camp is a Who’s Who Amongst Martial Arts Royalty
The amount of incredible martial arts coaches within the Straight Blast Gym family is absolutely incredible. In addition to the aforementioned Adam Singer and Matt Inman, here are some of the coaches that have taught and/or attended recent SBG Camps:
John Kavanagh (Coach of Conor McGregor)
Rory Singer (UFC record holder for fastest submission in the middleweight division)
and of course, Phil Gentry
There are way, way more incredible coaches and fighters that attend SBG Camp, but in the interest of not making this a really, really long read we’re going to end the list there.
