You will be hard pressed to find someone as committed to the SBG Tribe as Coach David. His professionalism and team-first mentality made him the obvious fit for General Manager.
When asked why he decided to accept the position, Coach David had this to say:
“I love what SBG is doing and what they are all about; I too am passionate about teaching people practical self defense skills that actually work and developing them as martial artists. If I can use my passion to enable others to learn how to protect and defend themselves, then I’m the lucky one. After having conversations with Coach Phil and Coach Jim about my goals to focus on the growth of our athletes inside and outside of the gym, the position was a rare opportunity that I felt blessed to take.”
Coach David has worked in the private security realm for nearly a decade and was looking for a new way to continue his training. In 2017, he discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and fell in love with the sport after his first class at SBG Buford. Coach David later joined SBG in 2018 and began his journey in our Foundations Program, becoming one of Coach Phil’s most consistent students. Today, Coach David is a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu and has been certified as a Coach through SBG’s “Coaches Candidate Course.”
The years of hard work, discipline, and dedication to his training is a testament to Coach David’s character and work ethic. Coach David has led our 6am Jiu Jitsu students in SBG Atlanta since the new location opened in March of 2022. His advice to those starting out in their martial arts journey is this:
“Fall in love with the idea of personal growth on the mats. Focus on coming in and getting 1% better every day, and then sit back and just enjoy the journey!”
In addition to his experience in private security, he is also an active member with the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) International, a certified Firearms Instructor, and a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor. Plus, he is excelling in his most important role to date; being a father to his one-year-old son, Logan.
