  • Edward Shin Is October’s Martial Artist Of The Month!

September was quite a month for Edward Shin, winning at multiple Brazilian Jiu Jitsu events!

Edward has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Straight Blast Gym for over 6 years.  A regular on the mats, he is one of the more active SBG athletes when it comes to, not only training, but competing at Jiu Jitsu events and tournaments.  This past September, Edward had a full plate. He was registered to compete in the IBJJF Atlanta Open Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament, followed by NFC 112 the next weekend.

Going into the Atlanta Open, Edward was on a mission to win first place and take home a gold medal.  Having competed in the Atlanta Open several times before, he had finished in 2nd place on numerous occasions.  This time, he was determined to stand on top of the podium.

After a month of dieting and lots of jiu jitsu training, Edward showed up to the Atlanta Open fired up and ready to go.  What followed was a beautiful display of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that led to Edward winning both of his matches and winning his division!

The following weekend, Edward again took to the big stage, this time at NFC 112; a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu event held at Center Stage, in Atlanta.  Competing in front of hundreds of his people and fellow jiu jitsu enthusiasts, Edward again brought his A game in route to a decision victory over a very tough opponent.

SBG Buford’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Head Coach Phillipe Gentry had this to say about Edward’s back-to-back weekend performances:

“I’ve never seen him so dialed-in.  He puts so much time and energy into jiu jitsu and our Tribe; it was great to see him come out on top and get rewarded for all of his hard work. It made it even more rewarding that so many of his friends and teammates came out to support him.”

Congratulations on a fantastic September, Edward.  Keep up the great work!
