SBG Buford has three Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athletes earning new belts!!
As a part of Straight Blast Gym’s promotion process, students that have earned a promotion take part in an Ironman ceremony. During an Ironman, the students being promoted will do a live roll (it’s our version of sparring) with all of their teammates in attendance, until one of the participants submits. It’s physically challenging, but also incredibly rewarding upon its completion.
For the attendees, Ironman’s are a wonderful chance to get together and celebrate with their teammates, some of whom they don’t get to see that often because they train at different times of the day. Ironmans are more relaxed than a typical Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class, as the reason for us all gathering is to celebrate our teammate’s hard work. When the ceremony concludes, we’ll head to a nearby restaurant and grab food/drinks.
The following SBG Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students have earned their next belt:
Thandi ‘T’ Turner: Black
Mike Greene: Brown
Joey Moran: Purple
Unlike a lot of martial arts taught in America, belt promotions in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are not given out all that regularly. All three of these men have been training at Straight Blast Gym for years, with T having been with SBG Buford for nearly a decade!
All Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students who have passed SBG’s Foundations program are welcome and encouraged to attend the Iron Man ceremony, as are the friends and family of the three men being promoted.
