    At Straight Blast Gym, we’re more than a fitness facility. We’re a knit community of like-minded individuals who are all committed to personal growth and self-improvement. This month, we’re incredibly excited to put the spotlight on one of our members, Tayo Onifade, who has been chosen as our Martial Arts Student of the Month. Tayo’s journey at SBG is truly inspiring, as it showcases how martial arts can have an impact not only on physical fitness but also on mental well-being. Let’s dive deeper into Tayo’s story.

    A Multifaceted Individual

    Tayos life revolves around roles, each playing an integral part in his overall identity. First and foremost, he is a father affectionately known as “Papa Bear” to his two children, Eniola and Sade. In addition to his role as a parent, he is also an educator who shares knowledge and wisdom as a professor at Clark Atlanta University in the School of Social Work. Tayo’s life serves as a shining example of finding balance and staying dedicated.

    The Motivation to Start

    When we asked Tayo about what motivated him to join SBG, his answer revolved around health improvement. He had a desire not only to enhance his well-being but also to prioritize his mental health.The warm and inviting atmosphere, combined with the energy at SBG made it feel like the place for Tayo’s personal growth journey.

    Promoting Wellness and Building a Strong Community

    Kickboxing fitness has played a role in Tayo’s journey. He explained how it not only helped him achieve weight loss but also introduced him to a tight-knit and supportive community at SBG. Alongside the benefits, being part of this community has had a positive impact on his mental and emotional well-being.

    The Path of Dedication

    Tayo’s progress in fitness cannot be attributed to a moment of triumph; rather, it is a testament to his dedication. He shared that his journey consists of a day-to-day commitment to training with a training partner and sometimes solo. Tayo emphasized how the coaches at SBG provide unwavering support and encouragement regardless of whether you’re an aspiring athlete, a participant, or someone on their own fitness path.

    Focused Mindfulness and Perseverance

    Being part of the SBG community has profoundly influenced Tayo’s motivation and consistency. He observed that it has enhanced his mindfulness and strengthened his ability to follow through with tasks until completion. These qualities, which extend beyond the gym walls, positively impact his life.

    Words of Advice for Newcomers

    To those contemplating joining our fitness program, Tayo offers advice: “Enjoy yourself and trust in the process.” It captures the essence of what we do at SBG. Finding joy in the journey and embracing the changes it brings

    Embarking on a Voyage of Self-Discovery

    Throughout his fitness journey, Tayo discovered that he has a knack for kicking (more than punching!). Joking aside, he never anticipated that martial arts would become such a part of his life.

    Hidden Depths

    As a tidbit, Tayo revealed that he’s actually a published author, showcasing his talents. His book, titled “Healer of the Dead,” displays both his creativity and ability to inspire others through the written word.

    Dreams for the Future

    Looking ahead to his goals Tayo envisions himself as a coach, passing on what he has learned to others. He also plans to incorporate Muay Thai as a means of promoting wellness in his psychology and life coaching endeavors. Recognizing the impact martial arts can have on well-being, Tayo is determined to bring this transformative tool into mainstream mental health practices.

    is one of the longest tenured coaches at SBG Atlanta. He has been training / coaching / competing in Jiu Jitsu, MMA, and other programs since 2011 and holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
