“Jackson wanted to start doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu because he loves martial arts and he got bored with karate because it wasn’t challenging enough.”
Jennifer Duneman brought Jackson here in the hopes he would discover a Kids Martial Art that would keep his interest and attention. Jackson is a fan of the UFC and had tried Kids Martial Arts before, not able to find one that he really latched on to. They also tried team sports, but Kids Martial Arts was where Jackson wanted to be; somewhere we he could be active and learn, instead of standing in the outfield waiting to catch a fly ball.
When Jennifer discovered that Straight Blast Gym Buford offered, not only, Kids Martial Arts and fitness programs for adults, she decided to come by with Jackson to check things out. Immediately, both Jackson and Jennifer had found their new home.
“His favorite thing about his classes are that they are fun. He loves the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu games they play, and he feels like he is learning a lot. His favorite thing about our gym is being able to see the friends that he has made and he having fun with the coaches. I get to hear all about Coach Sean and Coach Jolene on our drive home from the gym.”
Within six short months of doing Kids Martial Arts at SBG, Jackson was invited to join our Leadership program. He now is adding to his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu arsenal by learning how to coach the other kids, and how to lead from the front. Where as his previous experiences doing Kids Martial Arts left him feeling unchallenged and frankly, bored, he has found a sport in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that challenges him mentally and physically.
In the gym, Jackson is an absolute riot. He is one of the funniest, and certainly one of the most entertaining, athletes in our Kids Martial Arts program. Muay Thai and Cardio Kickboxing coach Jim Sheppard has dubbed Jackson our Head of Security for the Kids Martial Arts team.
“When Jackson sees me in the gym, he’ll ask me what I’m doing. If my answer isn’t satisfying to him, he’ll straight bounce me from the gym and escort me to the front door. At least once per week I get kicked out of my own gym by a 9 year old.”
Jackson is a huge contribution to our Kids Martial Arts program, and we appreciate all of his hard work on the mats (and his high-level bouncing skills)!
