    General

Join us at SBG Buford as we celebrate a new crop of Jiu Jitsu students who have earned their next belt.

When it’s time for one of our Jiu Jitsu students to move up to the next belt, we celebrate their accomplishment with an Iron Man Belt Promotion.

What exactly is an Iron Man, and why do we do them?

The old school way of promoting students in Jiu Jitsu is to have them go through a Gauntlet. It’s pretty brutal. I’ll let the video below do the talking. Click on the picture right down there to see what a Gauntlet is all about.

^ NOT an Iron Man ^

Rather than whip each other into submission, we prefer to choke each other into submission 😂. But for real, an Iron Man allows all of your teammates to be a part of your promotion. After all, you couldn’t have done it without your coaches and teammates, so we want them to be a part of your celebration.

During an Iron Man, the people being promoted will do a live roll with every one of their teammates in attendance until they finally reach Coach Phil at the end. Once all of the promoted students are finished, we’ll all head to the Tannery Row Alehouse in downtown Buford for drinks and lunch.

Who Can Attend an Iron Man Jiu Jitsu Belt Ceremony?

EVERYONE! Even if you are brand new to Jiu Jitsu, you are welcome to attend the ceremony as a spectator. If you are a 3 stripe white belt or above, feel free to join in on the fun; just bring your gi and belt.
