You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more enthusiastic and driven kid at Straight Blast Gym than Tyson.
A member of our Growing Gorillas Kids Martial Arts program, Tyson actively trains, and competes, in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Having participated in taekwondo at an early age, Tyson gravitated towards martial arts. His father, Bee, wanted Tyson to start becoming familiar with the grappling portion of martial arts, seeing as how most altercations that happen between kids end up in a wrestling match. Bee took to the internet and discovered the Kids Martial Arts program at Straight Blast Gym Buford. He enrolled Tyson in the Growing Gorillas Jiu Jitsu program and Tyson immediately took to jiu jitsu.
“We joined SBG’s Kids Martial Arts program because you guys have a great program for young (4-6 year old) kids who are not familiar with BJJ. The Jiu Jitsu games showed Tyson BJJ moves and was a great introduction for Tyson.”
After spending several months learning the foundations of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in our Spidermonkey age group (4-6), Tyson began to train with the Chipmanzee group (7-10). Tyson is now learning how to put the movements of jiu jitsu to use, all the way from taking his opponent to the ground and then how to control them once he gets there. Through Tyson’s dedication and enthusiasm towards the sport, he earned a gold medal at a local kids jiu jitsu tournament, this past August, competing in a division against kids that were more experienced than him!
“Now that he is in the bigger kids class, he enjoys the physical competitive challenges of the bigger kids and more technical explanation of the techniques. Tyson enjoys sparring as well!”
There are big things ahead for Tyson. His coach, Sean Coleman, gave Tyson rave reviews, specifically in terms of how easy he is to coach and his enthusiasm towards jiu jitsu and the gym in general. Tyson is a pleasure to have in class, and a great member of the Growing Gorillas Kids Martial Arts team!
