  • SBG Buford’s Martial Arts Athletes Get Ready For Jiu Jitsu Event

    General

On Saturday, May 4th, over a dozen martial arts athletes from SBG Buford will be participating in the Atlanta Open; the largest local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition of the year.

3 times per year, the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation comes to the Buford – Atlanta area to host a large and prestigious martial arts tournament known as the Atlanta Open. Martial Arts athletes from Straight Blast Gym Buford have been competing and thriving at the Atlanta Open for years, and this upcoming event will be no different.

One of the beautiful things about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is that martial artists of all experience levels can compete. The Atlanta Open brackets it’s athletes based on three criteria:

    – Age
    – Weight
    – Experience

These criteria create as much parity as possible, ensuring that someone who is new to martial arts doesn’t get smashed by a larger and more experienced competitor. SBG Buford will bring athletes of all different sizes and experience levels to the Atlanta Open. SBG Buford will have jiu jitsu coaches on hand to assist and coach our competitors.

There will be no adult jiu jitsu classes held on Saturday, May 4th. Kids martial arts classes will be held at their usual times of 9am and 10am. All other martial arts and fitness classes will be held at their normal times.

Admission for spectators is free of charge. All SBG Buford martial arts athletes are encouraged to attend and support their teammates. The event will be held at the Georgia International Convention Center, located at 2000 Convention Center Concourse in Atlanta.
