Samuel Rekimchuk is Straight Blast Gym Atlanta's Martial Arts Kid of the Month for April 2022
After joining Straight Blast Gym in Buford, Samuel has joined several of his family members as a student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Every week, parents walk into Straight Blast Gym looking to get their child (or children) involved with a new activity that can build their confidence through legitamite martial arts training. This was no different for Nadia Rekimchuk, who was looking for something similar for her son Samuel. Nadia gave us some more details about why and how Samuel ended up at SBG Buford:
"Samuel has 8 uncles, four of whom are doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Samuel’s uncles have been encouraging him to try it, which is how we found Straight Blast Gym."
It wasn't long after that when Nadia and her husband discovered SBG and enrolled their son Samuel in our Growing Gorillas Kids Jiu Jitsu program.
"Now, every time we have a family gathering and there is Jiu Jitsu, Samuel participates as well."
Since August of 2021, Samuel has been a staple in our Kids Jiu Jitsu program. Since first putting on the gi, Sam has had a consistent presence on the mats, even recently participating in our in-house Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament, The Gorilla Cup.
Participating in his very first Jiu Jitsu competition, Samuel put all of his hard work and skill development on display. Not only did he win matches but he won his entire division, taking home a gold medal!
Seeing Samuel do so well during his first competition wasn't a surprise to his coaches, who have had a front-row seat to his progress over the past 8 months. Not only has he had great attendance during his tenure at SBG Buford but he has made the most of his time on the mats, making huge strides in his martial arts skills. One of his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coaches, Carmen Garcia, said this about Samuel:
"Sam is a sponge and does a great job of understanding and executing the techniques. I really like his family too. Whenever we have events he brings his family and his sister's to come and be a part of what we're doing. He is a super happy and sweet kid and is always eager to learn"
When Samuel isn't crafting his Jiu Jitsu at Straight Blast Gym he likes to keep himself busy with activities and even a little mischief. His mother told us:
" Samuel has great sense of humor and even likes to prank his family and friends! He enjoys baking and cooking, meeting with his friends and have a great time with them. One of many great qualities Samuel has, is being a hard worker. If Samuel sets a goal, he will work hard to achieve it !
