  • Raphael Wussler is December’s Martial Artist of the Month

Raphael just received his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!

Unlike a lot of other martial arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu does not succumb to the notion of giving its athletes a belt every month or two. At Straight Blast Gym, we believe that when an athlete receives a belt promotion they should have no doubt that they deserve it. Raphael is a fantastic example of this, having trained at Straight Blast Gym for over a year before receiving his blue belt in November.

When he started training at Straight Blast Gym in 2017, he quoted his reason for starting simply as “Conor McGregor”. Little did he know that SBG and Jiu Jitsu would soon become a way of life for Raphael.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Coach Sean Coleman had this to say about Raphael:

“He’s such a good dude. He’s proven to be a good training partner, but he knows when to dial it up. Despite his chill demeanor he’s a good competitor and he always brings it when the time calls for it.”

In addition to being a regular in our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes, Raphael recently took up Muay Thai. He can now be found at Straight Blast Gym just about every evening, sometimes taking Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes back-to-back.

It has been rather incredible to watch the physical and mental changes to Raphael over the past year +. Great work sir, and congratulations on your recent promotion to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt!
