    General

Christian Sanchez’s mom recently told us about some of the amazing changes that her son has undergone since joining our Growing Gorillas martial arts program.

Typically, we use these monthly spotlights, for our Kids Martial Arts Member of the Month, to write up a nice article, highlighting the young students progress on and off of the Jiu Jitsu mats.  This month, we got such great feedback from from Christian’s mom, Amanda, that we’re going to let her take the floor and tell us about Christian’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey at SBG Buford.

SBG: What made you want to get Christian into martial arts, specifically Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Amanda: He has always had an amazing heart and wanted to help others, but would easily get taken advantage of. As he has gotten older his attitude started to change from sweet and helpful to sarcastic, with a lot of back talk.  There are so many fights that happen in middle school, and we felt it necessary for our son to not just know how to throw a punch but how to really defend himself. He has tried Karate, but feels more challenged and, frankly, enjoys jiu jitsu more. Since joining SBG, he helps me more around the house and looking after his little brother. When he’s in class I always see this huge smile on his face and can tell he finally has his spark back.

SBG: What is his favorite part of SBG and jiu jitsu classes?

Amanda: His favorite part is definitely the Leadership classes. That blue gi (uniform they receive as a part of being invited to our Martial Arts Leadership team) has given him this huge boost of confidence and makes him feel his hard work is paying off.  We truly appreciate SBG and the amazing coaches! Thank you for selecting our son for the honor of November’s Kid of the Month!

SBG Buford Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Coach Sean Coleman added this about Christian:

Sean: He came in with some much needed changes to his attitude, but took to the program (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), his teammates, and now to the Leadership Team.  He’s becoming a mat general, and it’s a role that he carries really well. He always has a good attitude and is a good partner for his teammates. Above all else, to me personally, is how coachable he has become.

Thank you Amanda, for all of the amazing feedback on Christian, and his martial arts journey at SBG Buford.  Keep up the amazing work Christian!
