Nathanial just got accepted into our Kid’s Jiu Jitsu Leadership program!

Nathanial has been with Straight Blast Gym for about 18 months, as a part of our Growing Gorillas Jiu Jitsu program. He is one of the original Spider monkeys (kids age 4-6), and one of the very first in his age group to be promoted to Leadership group. Leadership members take their jiu jitsu and martial arts training to the next level by working on, not only advanced techniques but, how to lead by example. One of the highlights of the Leadership program is when the kids get to show their favorite submission to the adult class, thereby earning the teaching chevron!

Head Kid’s Coach Sean Coleman had this to say about Nathanial:

Nathanial is always excited to learn and consistently focused, especially for someone his age. His ability to lead by example when doing drills is a huge asset to the Spider monkey crew and he will be a great example for Leadership team!

One of the areas in which Nathanial excels during the Kids Growing Gorillas Jiu Jitsu class is in his ability to improve from week to week. A large part of the curriculum for the 4, 5, and 6 year olds is teaching basic gymnastics and posture, something that is essential in martial arts and other sports. Nathanial shows visible improvement and understanding from week to week, especially in his ability to pivot, tumble, and explode from a neutral stance. All of these tools are giving Nathanial an incredible set of foundational skills that will make his application of Brazilian jiu jitsu and martial arts that much easier as he joins our Chimpanzee kids jiu jitsu group (7-10 years old) in a couple years.

Coach Jolene added this about Nathanial:

His jiu jitsu is getting really good! Over the course of his first year you could see him developing leadership qualities; he’s helping the other kids understand the drills and movements. The older kids who help assist in class were just giving him serious props, the other day, about how much better his jiu jitsu is getting!”

Keep up the great work Nathan, and congrats on making the Jiu Jitsu Leadership team!
