    General

The Gorilla Cup is an in-house Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament held at Straight Blast Gym Buford.

Twice per year Straight Blast Gym Buford hosts the Gorilla Cup, a Saturday morning Jiu Jitsu tournament that is only open to Straight Blast Gym athletes.  Medals are awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers. The entire event takes 3-4 hours, from start to finish. That is incredibly quick for a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament!

The Gorilla Cup is a fantastic opportunity for kid and adult jiu jitsu athletes to be able to compete in their sport, at a fraction of the price it costs to go to a large tournament.  Sometimes, local jiu jitsu events will be an hour or more away. When you arrive, you may compete in an hour or you may have to wait 4-5 hours. When it’s all over, you’ll have another hour + drive to get back home.

The Gorilla Cup offers the following:

    • A low entry fee
    • Brackets that are designed to be fair and as even as possible
    • At least 2 guaranteed match-ups
    • A competition that doesn’t take up your whole day
    • A low-stress environment to compete and earn medals
    • A fantastic opportunity for the whole family to come out and watch their kid/husband/wife/mom/dad compete

We have seen tremendous success with the Gorilla Cup, not only with the kids, but for adults who are newer to the sport.  Competing can bring on a lot of anxiety. The Gorilla Cup creates a real-life tournament environment in a safe place where our jiu jitsu athletes feel comfortable.

Save an easy $5 by registering before September 14th!  The Gorilla Cup is a cash-only event, as all entry fees and donations go straight to the Gorilla Fund.  The Gorilla Fund has saved our young athletes thousands of dollars over the years, helping them to pay for tournament registration, medicals, licenses, and more.
