    General

ATLOpenThe Atlanta Open is back September 24th and 25th at the Georgia International Convention Center.

Saturday the 24th will be for those wishing to compete in Gi. Sunday the 25th will be for those wishing to compete in No-Gi.

The Atlanta Open is hosted by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation or for short IBJJF. The IBJJF is a for profit organization founded in 2002 and hosts some of the largest tournaments around the world.

IBJJF tournaments are significantly bigger than local tournaments, which at first may seem somewhat overwhelming, but in my experience have been some of my favorite experiences. Competitors come from all over to participate, and with these tournaments being so large, that means for one, that weight classes and ranks are more closely matched.

While smaller competitions are a nice appetizer to get a taste of what tournaments can be like, IBJJF tournaments really help you to see what you are made of. I don’t mean that to sound extreme, but rather, because you are more closely matched in weight and rank against your opponents, you really get to see what you’ve learned, get put to work. Therefore, you get a good visual of your strengths, areas you can improve on and a better idea of what works for you and what doesn’t.

Whether you are in Jiu Jitsu to become a world champion or simply prefer it over traditional workout methods, competing is all around an experience I would recommend for everyone. Competition awakens those tribal instincts of survival and releases a healthy dose of adrenaline that awakens the soul.

I hope to see everyone there! Let’s SHOW UP and REPRESENT!

    ONE TRIBE, ONE VIBE!
