    General

Adam Hubbard has lost 80 pounds since the beginning of 2020.

It’s easy to hate on 2020.  For all intents and purposes, it’s been a pretty lousy year for a whole lot of people.  This COVID pandemic has been difficult on us all, and one of the unfortunate byproducts has been that many of us have put on unwanted weight gain during the quarantine months.  With gyms shut down (including SBG Buford), it has been easy to lose motivation and ease up on your workouts and dietary selections.  Adam (or Hubbs, as he’s known at Straight Blast Gym Buford) DID NOT let himself become a victim of the quarantine-blues, and instead decided to invest in himself and his well-being.

It wasn’t an easy process because, frankly, losing weight isn’t nearly as fun as gaining it.  Adopting a low-carb diet and regularly going for runs in his neighborhood, Hubbs began to shed the extra weight.  When Straight Blast Gym Buford was allowed to re-open and resume operating martial arts classes in May of 2020, he jumped back into action, often training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai classes on the same day.

As of this writing, Hubbs has gone from 323 pounds to 243 pounds over the last 7 months.

Adam has always been a big guy.  When he first began training at Straight Blast Gym Buford in 2014, he was a 300 pound high school student.  He earned his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and became a regular in our Muay Thai classes, often training 5-6 times per week.  He moved well for a heavyweight…but we wanted more for him. He wore his weight pretty well, as he has a naturally large frame that’s built to hold over 200 pounds, but we all knew that to fully unlock his athletic potential we’d need Hubbs to drop some pounds.
