When it comes to physical fitness, most of the attention gets put on our efforts inside the gym. Straight Blast Gym group fitness coach, and personal trainer, Sean Blair understands an equally valuable part of training…your recovery.

While you may spend your time in the gym lifting, pushing, pulling, running, rowing, and jumping, it’s the time outside of the gym where you see your biggest gains. Inside the gym, you’re breaking down your muscles with all of the physical activity you’re doing. It’s when you eat, sleep, and rest that you begin the recovery process that leads to more strength, leaner looking muscles, and improved performance.

Here are Coach Sean’s top 3 recovery supplements that he considers a “must have”:

    1. Protein/BCAA: Yes, protein. It’s not just for those big meat heads that you see walking around with their gallon jugs and a shaker cup full of sludgy, muddy looking protein-soup. Adequate protein intake is essential for EVERY athlete! If you are taxing your muscles, consuming a solid .5 grams of protein per body pound is must. If protein powders aren’t your thing, use a BCAA powder that you can easily mix into your water and consume after training, ensuring your muscles the nutrients they need to recover faster and better. BCAA powder comes in all kinds of flavors like grape, orange, and fruit punch.

2.Fish Oil: Omega 3’s are the JAM when it comes to keeping inflammation at bay. It makes you sore, achy, and not wanting to exercise. Consuming fish oil every day is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to reduce inflammation to a minimum and keep you feeling alert and relaxed. Not to mention, studies have shown that fish oil can also help to reduce bad cholesterol, prevent heart disease, enhances skin & hair, and even help with exercise induced asthma.

    3. Vitamin D: Vitamin D is the mack daddy of vitamins when it comes to improving your athletic performance. The vitamin actually operates as a hormone. It regulates processes within your muscular system and keeps inflammation down. People who have Vitamin D deficiencies tend to complain about general muscle soreness. In addition to the awesome muscle support they provide great immune support. When you train hard your body becomes more prone to free-radicals and becoming ill. Vitamin D helps to keep you feeling fresh and ready to get back in the gym!
